TT 12

13 things that are different since the kids have been away
  1. I don't do nearly as much laundry.
  2. It's a lot quieter around the house... too quiet sometimes.
  3. We eat out a bit more. (That has got to stop! We're going to have to eat peanut butter sandwiches on our anniversary trip...)
  4. Breakfast is usually forgotten altogether by me. I don't have two kids asking me to sit and to eat with them.
  5. Our milk went bad... really bad because the kids weren't here to consume it. (I still haven't bought any more milk.)
  6. I'm spending much less on groceries.
  7. The ice cream seems to be able to last longer than a few days.
  8. I've slept in past 8:30 AM twice. (Woo hoo!)
  9. I find myself doing "kid things" a little more. We played in the rain and sailed paper boats down the rain water current, running after them to see their progress down the street.
  10. Mr. Right and I have been on way more dates. (Two concerts, a couple of trips to the arboretum, a couple of stay-at-home-watch-movies-in-bed-without-clothes date nights, a Royal's game and many holding-hands walks in the neighborhood... not bad, not bad at all, if I do say so myself)
  11. I am not finding myself disgusted over the thought of cleaning the kids' bathroom. (When do boys finally make it all the way in the toilet without leaving any sort of mess?!)
  12. I can easily, and without intentionally avoiding it, not go into the basement in over a month. I guess I just don't live down there very much.
  13. There's a lot more *aheming* going on...

What are some things you've noticed around your place this summer?

TT 11

I know... Shocking, isn't it? The last one I did was in July.
Here are 13 (or so...) ways that we had fun over the snow days...

The snow starts falling...
(Kid's play and Mr. Right works to clear the driveway.)

The kids on Saturday morning

Ummm, I did feed them before they went out...

Sunday's snowman, Chilly (No, we did not pay hommage to you Chili. Sorry dear friend.)

Mr. Right and the boy pack it down

The boy works on the middle section

The girl molds the head. (She actually came up with a nicely sculpted head. She put ears and a nose on it and everything. However, it was entirely too small for the rest of the body, so she chucked it and started over.)

Watch out, Mr. Right!

Everyone needs a little snowfight in the middle of a making a snowman, right?

Watch out, girl!

The final piece!

Ummm, yeah, so I don't have any pictures of the KIDS with Chilly, but being the self-centered person that I am, I made sure that I was posed next to the finished product. Chilly was so cute, I couldn't resist a little kiss.

Normal pose... how boring. But I love the look of me in the picture! (See, self-centered, I tell you!)

Okay, one of Mr. Right. He's such a hottie, I'm surprised Chilly didn't melt with his nearness. I certainly do!

As If You Wanted To Know

In answer to Susanne's question about the cherry stem thing...

I didn't think it was such a hard trick. I thought for sure that there would be an outpouring of comments like "I can do that too!"... much like the grass thing.

I don’t know what made me try tying cherry stems, but I have an interesting story on it.

One night, soon after I met Mr. Right and really found that I was attracted to him, but not dating quite yet, I was at my club banquet with a friend – a friend I dated the year before, but found that we were better off friends. He was actually attending the banquet with me because the guy I did invite decided he wanted to date two girls at the same time (me and another girl) and I wanted nothing of it. I figured that if he didn’t know a good thing when he had it, then he didn’t deserve me. (Mr. Right was already going with my friend Janie who was IN LOVE with him so I couldn’t ask him.) Anyway, I asked my guy friend, with the full expectation of being turned down because there were a number of ladies in my club were mad over him and one of them had probably asked him already, but to my surprise and delight he said that he would go with me to the banquet.

We went to the banquet and as it turned out to my complete surprise and enjoyment, Mr. Right and I sat next to each other during the dinner. (God had a plan in it because neither of us were responsible for the seating chart which had been set up months before then.) It was one of those situations where we found ourselves talking to each other for a duration of time and, at the same moment - without saying a word, we realized that we had been ignoring our dates, so we quickly turned to talk to them. Desserts came around and there must have been cherries on it because I popped the stem in my mouth and quickly tied it in a knot. Mr. Right, seeing this stunt, popped his in and did the same thing. My date, not to be outdone, popped his in and worked and worked and worked on it. He left and came back a minute later with it tied. I totally called him on taking it out, tying it and coming back to the table with it done. He couldn’t repeat the tying in front of us. He sulked for a while since he was shown up by not just a girl, but by me.

I could live with being a superior user of my tongue - in wit and in use.

Dress for banquet - $40
Banquet tickets - $70
Showing up a former boyfriend and sitting next to my future husband who has the same tongue capabilities - Priceless

We are both happy people...

And yeah, it did belong on the Weird Meme, but that list could have one on and on and on if I didn’t stop somewhere.

Nine Kinds of Weird

So I have no idea why HolyMama would tag me for this kind of meme. I'm sure I'm the most normal person you could ever meet. But I will scrounge to find the nine required listings.

  1. When typing, if I am really close to where my error in typing is made, I must delete every letter to that error and start over - even if the other words were spelled correctly. (I've done it twice in typing this sentence.)
  2. I know the words to way too many songs.
  3. I must sing the aforesaid songs if they are playing. Ask Lauren. She had to sit next to me and endure my singing during the wedding luncheon.
  4. When I am in a situation where a song fits perfectly, I will break out in song and share it with everyone else.
  5. I do not like it when my kids try to tickle me. For some reason, it angers me. I really don't like this little tidbit about me.
  6. I subconsciously want to be a bartender when I grow up. I like mixing drinks. Okay... I like drinking them too. I'm such a lush.
  7. Often when I pray, I often find that my mind has wandered off to other areas that might be related to what I was just praying. A few minutes to an hour later, I will realize that I never finished my prayer... This drives me batty. I need some Ginkgo Biloba... I'll get some on my next trip to the store - IF I can remember to get it.
  8. I get cold very quickly, so in the winter, I have a bath almost every night just to warm up. My favorite thing is when Mr. Right, a shower guy by birth, decides to join me. That helps to warm me alllllll over.
  9. I don't always rarely never get my laundry finished in one day, so when I get up in the morning, I like to start the dryer so that if I get my act together to actually fold the clothes in the dryer, they are warm. (I do this no matter the time of year.

Okay, should it alarm me that I typed out the list without hesitation and was ready to continue on with that list until I realized that I was only supposed to do nine of them? Oh boy. I may have to do some self-evaluating here...

(evaluating... evaluating... evaluating...)

Okay, I'm weird.

Now let's here some more strangeness from blogland. I want to know what is weird about Shannon, Chilihead, Faith, CMommy, AggieJenn and Heather.

And Susanne, I know you tagged me for the Meme of Three... I'll get on it, I promise!

Five For Five

No, don't start looking for a sale. It's not that kind of 5 for 5 deals, unless you want a slice of that fantastic pie from yesterday. I'd sell you one of thse for a fiver, for sure. But knowing me, I'd feel too guilty about it and just give you the piece of pie as an act of friendship. It's much better that way.

PastorMac's Ann over at It's Always A Production (ain't that the truth!) tagged me with little meme. So here goes.

1) Five Minutes to yourself. How would you spend them ideally? Well ideally I should say reading, but seeing how I usually get at least an hour to myself every morning because I wake up so stinkin' early, I'm going to step outside that box and list other things that I would like to do, such as (but in no way limited to!):

  • talking with Lauren
  • laughing with Jeana
  • sitting on the beach with my mom
  • chatting with Gina
  • flying with f-stop
  • scarfing a Hawaiian pizza with AggieJenn
  • getting fall tips from GiBee
  • drinking a mocha breve with Bekah
  • receiving a lip gloss lesson from Kelsey
  • making lasagna with Addie
  • tracking down Stacey
  • talking books with Susanne
  • eating Cold Stone with Shannon and Chilihead
  • looking at clouds with Kate
  • vacationing with Kim
  • cooking with Willson
  • viewing tattoos with Kathryn
  • hugging Lori
  • getting to know Scribbit
  • making a shake for Laurel
  • playing Uno with my kids
  • eating pie with BooMama
  • sitting with momrn2 watching the deer in her yard
  • conversing with Shayne
  • reading a love letter from Mr. Right
  • savoring wine with Antique Mommy
  • receiving a call telling me that someone just gave us money to pay off the student loans

2) Five Dollars to spend right now. How or where would you spend it?

I would save it for the We Wanna Meet weekend coming up in just 17 days. I have a feeling that I did not save enough for all the food, fun and festivities that have been planned...

3) Five Items in your house you could part with right now?

  • my dust collection
  • the two chairs in the front room that Mr. Right had to have
  • the wallpaper in our masterbath (came with the house)
  • lima beans (blech)
  • the bills (as in "Pay me!" bills not the bills that are actual cash... wait, I don't have any of the latter in my house so it's not a big problem)

4) Five Items in your house you absolutely, positively could never part with?

  • Mr. Right
  • my girl
  • my boy

That's really all I can name. All the rest is just stuff. It would be rather inconvenient to lose anything, but as long as I had my family, we could make the rest work (after the tears about losing everything else, that is.)

*After creating this post, I went home to find the freezer door open with some food partially thawed. I kept reminding myself that it's just stuff, that I really meant what I wrote, that everything is okay in the long run, that God will replace that food... So I did mean what I wrote, I just had to talk myself into the truth of it. I just wish that God didn't have to give me such an expensive reminder. But for now, we'll be eating chicken or pork for a couple of days. Mr. Right barbequed some last night and I forsee some chops in our future. Sigh. But at least we have food. Thank you God. I'm really not whining; I'm just feeling the truth of the words.

5) Five Words (or phrases in my case) you love?

  • "Hey love" (from Mr. Right - he almost always answers my calls with these words)
  • "Mom"
  • "I love you" (especially from the family, but certainly not limited to them)
  • "You look great!" (from anyone - really I'm not that picky who says it)
  • "Hey, I just found $20 in my coat. Let's go to Fortune Wok or Chick-fil-A!"

Okay, I'm tagging a few to see how they'll reply: Scribbit, momrn2, kpjara, Aggiejenn and Laurel Wreath

I'm Such A Weirdo

Heather from Funny Thoughts About Life's Crazy Happenings caught me for another meme. Susanne tried to get me too, but all it takes is one tag to make me it. And here I thought I was playing hard to get… Heather totally got me when I was looking the other way.

The meme requires that I must list 5 weird things about myself or my pet and then I must tag 5 people to do the same. Five? That’s all? Honey, don’t you know that this list could go on for DAYS? I won’t chicken out and do the pet thing. I’ll grab my idiosyncrasies by the horns and pray that I don’t get hurt on the way.
  1. When riding in the car, I envision a long cutter that will cut down all the tall grass on the side of the road. This only applies when I am on the passenger’s side, front seat. And my cutter can magically go around all signs leaving them intact. Don't have an answer as to how or when it started...
  2. I like my house HOT. A pleasant 80’s is perfect for me. Fortunately I married someone who feels the same way, at least until his allergies start acting up. I do, however, turn it down for company, so fret not if you are ever inclined to head my way. Just don’t be surprised to see me in a sweater if I need it. In the cold, I don’t want my house all stuffy, so it is kept down with the fire place used for old-fashioned heat (although it’s a gas fireplace, so it’s not the same as a great wood burning fire).
  3. I have been known to get so engrossed into what I am doing that meals can pass me by. Often, around 2:30 in the afternoon, I will start to wonder why I am hungry, only to realize that I’ve missed lunch altogether. Then I have the debate of waiting to eat at dinner or ruining it by eating at that time. It’s usually a toss-up as to which one wins.
  4. I love Monty Python. They crack me up! I could sit and watch them and then hope to find funny ways to insert some of the most clever lines into real life dialogue. The same goes with Napoleon Dynamite. And LOTR. And Anne of Green Gables. And… well you get the idea. Lines I can use in a fit setting. But if someone asks for one outright, my mind goes blank. Kind of like jokes. I can’t remember a joke right for nothing!
  5. I’m an onion lover. The more the merrier in my book. And all its family members. (That includes garlic, a.k.a. the stinking rose. Betcha didn’t know that, huh? See you can learn something from me.)
  6. And just to be different, I’ll tack an extra one on mainly because I hate it when something tells me that I MUST do something. (Do you wonder where my son gets his obstinacy?)
I’m not a crafts-type woman. I can do nothing without a detailed list of instructions and even then it probably won’t look the way it should. I applaud all you who have a way with sewing, gluing, drawing, placing, and basically creating something out of nothing. I have not that gift. Maybe it skipped about 4 generations and my kids will miraculously have it.

Now I hereby declare that I touched Shayne, Melissa, Addie, Chilihead, Bekah and Jeana’s Katie. I’d pick Jeana, but really she definitely gives us her weirdness in full force. We won’t get to read her daughter's answers, but everyone wants to be picked sometimes, especially sweet blogging girls.

A Meme to Think for Me

In the absence of any original thoughts, I thought I would do this little meme that kpjara so kindly threw my way. It was more like a dodgeball aimed directly at my head, but hey, whatever works. (Luckily for me I have ninja-like reflexes and it only skimmed my flyaway hair. But being the honest person that I am, I totally copped to being hit.)

1. One book that changed your life: Aside from the Bible, there have been a couple of books that has revolutionized my way of thinking. The first one is His Needs, Her Needs by Willard Harley. This book has amazing insight on the needs of each spouse in the marriage and how, once the couple discovers the needs that matter most to each other, the marriage can flourish and become a pillar of strength and a safe haven for both people. Mr. Right and I have read it both twice (in 14 years) and we will continue to do so to keep our great marriage on track.

Recently I’ve read Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller and I love it’s openness and unabashed look at Christianity. Although I don’t agree with all of his thoughts (politically), I do agree with the true essence of the book, the core meaning that says basically “Love like Jesus”. You just can’t go wrong with a message like that. Plus there were times that I would have had coffee coming out of my nose had I been drinking it at the time. I finished it a couple of months ago and I'm still pensive about his thoughts. That makes it a good book to me.

2. One book that you've read more than once: Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffernegger is still my favorite book. Mr. Right gave me an autographed copy for my birthday, so I will probably read it every two or three years now. Yes, it’s that good. I’ve also re-read Odd Thomas, Lightning and Watchers by Dean Koontz. He’s such a witty writer who knows how to keep the book in your hand, anxiously reading to see what happened next. Grasshopper by Barbara Vine is a wonderful mystery with a bit of humor, suspence and romance thrown in for fun. And almost all the Jane Austen books have been worn to pieces with their re-perusals. I love her turns and her happy endings.

3. One book you'd want on a desert island: Too bad it wasn't a dessert island... that's the kind of island I would love to stranded on. Okay, not including my Bible, a survival book. Boy, would I need it.

4. One book that made you laugh: all of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. Seriously, I cannot not laugh out loud when reading them.

5. One book that made you cry: Oh, there are too many to chose from. But, consider the source here… I cry when reading I’ll Love You Forever and Guess How Much I Love You and Charlotte’s Web. I’m a woman who is not afraid to be in touch with her emotional side. (Mr. Right says that this is one of the things that really endears me to him – that I would cry over a fictional character in a book. He says it shows that I have a caring heart. I like that he thinks that.) I really empathize with many characters, so it is easy for me to hurt for them. Unequivocally, I would have to say Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers had me considering purchasing stock in Kleenex and so did Time Traveler’s Wife. Oh, and Year of Wonders too. But they are such good cries...

6. One book that you wish had been written: Hasn't everything under the sun been penned?

7. One book you wish had never been written: Davinci Code. My kids could write better drivel than what was in that piece of “literary” work. Blugh. What a waste of time. Fortunately for me, since it was such a childishly penned work, it didn’t take too much of my time to discover how beastly and dull it really was. Unfortunately for me, I feel that I should finish a book because sometimes they turn out well in the end. This one was one time I should have put it down and walked away.

8. One book you are currently reading: The Bible (I’m in Romans now), One Tuesday Morning, The Fourth Bear, Captivating, Last Man Standing and Danger in the Shadows.

9.One book you've been meaning to read: Searching for God Knows What, Jennifer Government, The March, Lonesome Dove, the entire list that kpjara sent me, and Herb’s First 100 Years which I cannot find anywhere in the KC library system. Hmph!

Now it’s my turn to throw the dodgeball. I’m tagging Chilihead, Shannon, Laura – aka org junkie, Big Mama, Antique Mommy, Mama C, Ken - aka the voice, Susan E who is a lurker who loves to read and Jeana. And I’m much nicer than kpjara… I’m aiming for your behinds.

TT 10

Thirteen things I will do when I see my kids tomorrow and the next day and the next day
(In case you are not aware of our situation, our kids are at Grandma's all summer long. Now before you say "LUCKY!", let me remind you that it has been about a month since we have seen them and we really are going through withdraw. I just plain miss them and it really has opened my eyes to appreciating their presence so much more. We are blessed to have this opportunity for the kids to get to be with the grandparents, but it does come at a cost.)
  1. Kiss them
  2. Hug them
  3. Cry
  4. Check out my daughter's new hair
  5. Let them talk until they are blue in the face
  6. Hold them close
  7. Talk until I am blue in the face
  8. Smile... A LOT
  9. Tickle them
  10. Cuddle
  11. Sing good night songs together
  12. Pray with them
  13. Go to bed and not sleep because I will be thinking of all the wonderful things I will do with them the next day - like repeating 1-13 again.

My Mug Shot (Oh I'm So Ashamed To Admit That I Have One)

Did you think I meant a real, honest to goodness, I've been to jail mugshot? Shame on you! I've told you what kind of person I was here, just look at the naughtiest childhood behavior to see how bad I was... How could you even think that? Good Night Nurse!

Antique Mommy tagged me with this different meme, and I, for one, could not pass it up, even though I have a few others that I think I have yet to do. (If I've missed your tag for a meme, would you please let me know? I've slept since then and can't remember squat sometimes.)

Anyway... it's a mug shot meme where I am to show my favorite mug, the one I reach for the most when I'm pouring that cup of coffee to get me going or the one I reach for the most when I'm having dessert or the one that I... Well you get the idea.

So here is the one I hold the most.

The picture on the side sums up why I need the cup in the first place. I don't know why I settled on this cup as being "mine", but I did. I do know how to share though, so if you are coming to my house on Saturday after the Lunch of Bloggers get-together (I just had to put it in there again... email me if you want to come and I'll give you the details.) and you reach for that mug, I'll let you use it. I know that I'll get to use it in the morning.

But to be quite honest, I'll take most any mug, as long as it is full of great coffee with a bit of cream. Truly, I am not that picky when it comes to getting my fix. I've been known to use a sippy cup when that was all I could find. Hey, I know no limits when it comes to getting a much needed cup of joe.

So let's see... I challenge Addie from Life with Little Women, BooMama (I love her tag line!), Stacey from Just Me and My Guys, kpjara from Can You Hear Me Now and f-stop steve (I had to pick you. You have a photoblog!) to show us your mug shots and go ahead and tell us with what you like to have yours filled. Curious minds want to know!

TT 9

For those of you who didn't/couldn't hear my audio blog from Saturday, the Lord has graciously found a way for me to get around daycare this summer because really, we just could not afford it. And He started the plan for it all several years ago. Here's how:

In His divine wisdom, which is perfect as we all know, He knocked enough sense into my brother to lead him into marrying one of the world's greatest women, who happened to be one of by closest friends. One of the best attributes about Gina is the fact that family means something to her. She longs to have all her family know all the other family members and she will go to great lengths to see that it is done, even though we all live several hundreds of miles apart.

So this summer she asked for my kids to come down and to visit for a couple of weeks. In Florida. To have lots of fun in the sun and with the cousins, aunts and uncles and the grandparents.

So now I give you the 13 reasons I wish I was my kid this summer.

  1. Being with Aunt Gina, eating popcorn and playing farkle
  2. Beach... nuff said.
  3. Playing with all my cousins
  4. Eating Grandma's food
  5. Staying up late
  6. Watching great movies with the group
  7. Shopping for fun stuff
  8. Grandma's birthday parties even if it's not my birthday
  9. Swimming in the pool
  10. Time to read, play or to complain about being bored
  11. Fresh seafood
  12. Not having to paint the dining room

And the 13th reason for being my kid this summer...

Not having to look at this All. Summer. Long.

Finally Gibee... I am doing the meme

About forever ago, I was tagged by Gibee at Kisses of Sunshine to do this tag. Being a woman of my word, if not timely, I will now commence my THIRD meme… And yes I now have a 4th to complete from Shannon… But I asked for it, so you really can’t blame her.

(I’m feeling mischievous today, so there is no telling what the answers will be. They may change from day to day. These are the ones that work for me today. If I filled it out two days from now, the answers may be different.)

What is your favorite word? I really love the word “sex”, mostly when used in a sentence by Mr. Right, as in “Let’s have sex!”

(I bet I just lost half the readers with that one. Let me check the Sitemeter… Yep, several readers gone after 3.8 seconds. For those of you still here, I’m forging on…)

What is your least favorite word? Leftovers or Brussels sprouts… it’s a toss up.

What turns you on spiritually, creatively, emotionally?
Spiritually: A really good lesson or reading scriptures and finding things for the first time. For example, when reading through John 12, I discovered for the first time that the chief priests planned to kill Lazarus as well because he had been raised from the dead? Or that Judas Iscariot was the money keeper for the disciples and he was called a thief because he helped himself to the purse for his own personal gain? (12:6) Or the reason that Jesus told the demons to be quiet and to not tell who he really was was to fulfill the scriptures in Isaiah? (Mark 1:25 and 34) Or the disciples, after watching first hand and gathering the remains from the feeding of the 5,000 still doubted and pondered how Jesus was going to feed another 4,000? Or when Jesus healed the man with Legion in him, he told him to go and tell how much God had done for him and the man went and told how much Jesus had done for him (inferring that God and Jesus were the same)? (Luke 8:39)

It’s as if God has opened my eyes to scriptures and I am seeing things for the first time.

Creatively: Well, I don’t really feel as if I am creative. I can’t even tell a joke all that well. See
here for proof. Go read it…I’ll wait. Did you notice that there isn’t a single comment on it? Not one laugh or anything. That is so disappointing when I think something is funny or creative and everyone just stares at me as if I have horns coming out of my head. You don’t really want to look, but you can’t help it… Mr. Right disagrees with me on this opinion about myself. So, I would have to say that when I see a really good dish, I like to replicate it and make it better if possible. Will that qualify for creativity? If not, then I like to sing songs that go along with what is going on in the situation. For example, my kids are looking all over for a toy they want and I start singing U2’s “But I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” song.

Emotionally: An honest, open heart and all those hallmark commercials… I’m like a water tap with those!

What turns you off?
Spiritually: Gossipmongers/troublemakers and those who claim to love Christ, but show no desire to make the necessary changes to live as if they love Him

Creatively: Not being able to replicate said dish!

Emotionally: Someone not accepting me for who I am and trying to change me

What’s your favorite curse word? I say “fooey”, “My lands” and “Good Night Nurse!” when things just need to be exasperated. (I have been known to say worse… The stories on that will be coming soon.)

What sound or noise do you love to hear?
Sound: Mr. Right gently waking me up, while holding a cup of steaming coffee
Noise: My kids climbing into the bed for some morning snuggles and spooning.

What noise or sound do you hate?
Sound: “Uh oh! MOM!!!...”
Noise: The cash register going on and on and on, indicating that there will be no money in my checking account until the following payday. (And even then, there won’t really be any money to spend on things that are fun!) That or a power saw grinding.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Back up singer to Mercy Me or Faith Hill or Sting or someone fun sounding like that.

What profession would you not like to do? Abortion Clinic Doctor

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say at the pearly gates? Well since I KNOW that heaven does exist, I have hope that God will say (after hugging me of course) “Welcome home Shalee. Let me show you to your room and then we’ll go party with the angels! Oh, and your brother Jesus has been just dying to see you!”

Whew. Another one done! That was way harder than I thought it would be, but still quite a bit of fun!

Alrighty then, it’s my turn to name a few. I again tag Susanne who is
Living to tell the Story, but you will have to go to her new blog to read it (unless she wants to use my comments for old time sake… Nah!), Lori, aka Pezmama, at Ratting Around because she often makes milk come out my nose – and I’m not drinking any (nor am I lactating!), and Kate from The Tate School because there is one lady with who charms my socks off.

TT 8... Introducing Addie the Magnificent

Rememer the "Lunch of Bloggers" on June 24th. If you can come just email me so that I can make sure you get all the information for it!

****************************************************

Last night I finally met Addie from Life with Little Women. Let me just tell you all that she is a doll! We had do much fun getting to know each other, although we were good friends just from reading each other's blogs. I am very much looking forward to getting to know her better!

Thirteen things that either occurred, came up or Addie and I laughed about during our first meeting. (Insert live audience laughter because that is what we did almost the whole time.)

1. My first words to Addie: "You are as cute in person as you are on your blog!"

2. "I should have reviewed your blog to remind myself about things about you."

3. "No... That would seem too much like stalking."

4. "Don't you remember my blog about..." "That's right! And then you..."

5. "What is my boss calling me about at this time in the evening!" (Later) "I really do like him. He's a great guy to work for..."

6. "How does that Dream Dinner place work? How much does it cost? What? You still have to cook it after paying for it?!"

7. "That girl is way too thin. I don't think I was that skinny even in high school."

8. "I bet your kids are laughing all the time!"

9. "All we can do is try our best. It's hard being a mom."

10. "So what are you doing with your girls when it comes to dating? Do you have set things decided already? Are you going on every first date or just the first date?"

11. "You're the next Mrs. Robinson..."

12. "You know when you meet someone and you just connect? That's how I feel about you."

13. "What time do they close? It's been two hours already?! Sheesh..."

(and an extra for grins and giggles...)

14. "I can't wait to have you and your family over really soon!"

Coffee with Addie at the Beanology... And a good time was had by all. (Well not the barista because we really needed to be kicked out due to closing, but the poor guy didn't want to do it.)

Jeana: Boy are you going to be sorry you asked me to do this meme...

Accent: I grew up in Tennessee for the most part, but my dad was in the Navy (♫ In the Navy, Yes, you can sail the seven seas…♫), so I moved around a very little bit. I don’t know why I don’t have a strong accent being that I lived in TN almost my entire childhood. (The first thing my mother-in-awe in Nebraska said to me was, “Oh, she doesn't have an accent. I was hoping she would have one.”) But Mr. Right can always tell when I am on the phone with a friend from the south because I get this drawl that somehow mysteriously appears. And it can’t be that hidden because I met on of my daughter’s friend’s mom and she said, “Where are you from? You have an accent.” I guess, like the rest of me, the accent is full of indecision.

Bible Book that I like: Mine because I have lots of notes and underlined parts that really talked to me at different times in my life; plus it has my name on it. If I had to pick an actual book, I would say James because it is very practical and applicable and Esther because I love the way that God is controlling every aspect without His presence being mentioned. (Did you ever notice that Esther would make a block-buster hit; it has action (Jews defending themselves), love (family – Esther and Mordecai, marriage – Esther and Xerxes), sex (hello, Esther is chosen to be in a harem and she was chosen by Xerxes because she “pleased” him), a villain (Haman), a heroine (Esther) and twisting, hold your breath plot filled with irony and humor. You didn’t notice it? Go read it again. You’ll see…)

Chore that I don’t care for: Bathroom duties… every stinking (literally) day. Ugh. (Seriously, if you have any suggestions after reading the bathroom post, I would love to hear them.)

Dog or Cat: Neither. Mr. Right, the girl and the boy all have allergies. I would love to have a dog, but the kids would have to learn the meaning of care and responsibility before that could happen. But Miss Sneaky Pants, out of the blue, asked me a couple of week ago: “Mom, do you think that I am a responsible person?” To which I replied, “Yeah, for the most part you are. You have to be reminded of some things but you accept your tasks without grumbling and you usually try your best on all of them.” To which she smiled and replied, “Then can I have a puppy?” I foresee one in our future…

Essential Electronics: Computer. Okay, I admit it; I like watching movies and football too, so TV and DVD player. And a coffee pot with a pause and serve because sometimes you cannot get your first cup fast enough.

Favorite Cologne: Remember that indecision problem I have? Here it comes again. I like Eternity for Women, Mackey, and all kinds of Victoria’s Secret/Bath and Body Works lotions (Sweet Pea comes to mind…)

Gold or Silver: As if I would turn down any jewelry based on color/metal… If it glitters, I’ll take it, especially if it’s real.

Handbag I Carry most often: I don’t like purses that much. I usually carry a very small black purse that doesn't hold much – cell phone, debit card, pen and maybe lip balm. Yeah, I’m all about looking good.

Insomnia: Hereditary… and I have MVP so it’s a given. As my mom says, “Hey, I figure that I’ll catch up on my sleep when I’m dead.”

Job Titles: Christian, Honey, Mom, Friend, Blogger, Housekeeper, Activity Scheduler, Crisis Manager, Counselor, Prayer Warrior, Mediator, Bill Payer, Chef, Bathroom Keeper, Ole Yeller (not because of color I assure you), Doubter, Comedian/Jokester and Executive Assistant (not always in that order)

Kids: One beautiful, smart, creative, want-to-be-just-like-mom daughter and one handsome, energetic, can’t-aim-if-his-life-depended-on-it son

Living Arrangements:

My humble home... God has been very good to us. There's even a guest room for visitors. (Hint hint)

Most Admirable Trait: Mr. Right answered this one for me. He said my soft heart – that I really care about other people. (I had to get him in a headlock before he gave me an answer I could use…)

Naughtiest childhood behavior: I was definitely a brat being the baby of the family, but I was also “a good girl.” I didn’t do much that was against the rules. I was getting married before I realized that I was in the perfect room for sneaking out… I’m such a dunce.

I did however have one major naughty incident: My friend Jamie, who was much more of a loose cannon that me, and I were out driving one night. All the sudden she stops the truck, turns to me and says, “We need to pull off those flashing lights on the blockades.” I stuttered, said there was no way I could do that – it’s just wrong!, and gaped as she bounded out to the sawhorse. I gave in and ran and twisted and twisted the stupid blinking light… But deep down I had this bit of glee that I was doing something “not allowed”. After several minutes of twisting, grunting and worrying that someone would drive by and catch us in the act, the light came off. (Jamie’s never did come off. The really stick those puppies on there!) We ran back to the truck and took off. I snuck into the house with it and took it to my room, looking at my act of vandalism.

Of course the guilt set in immediately, so until I could figure out what to do with it, I shoved it into my closet and got ready for bed, figuring out of sight, out of mind and I’ll deal with it tomorrow. I crawled into bed, doused the light and tried to sleep, but this flashing light kept bothering me… Oh, no… the police have already found me and I’m going to go to jail over this first act of rebellion. What was I thinking!!! Wait, that light is coming from the closet. Oh man, the light works on a sensor, turning on when it’s dark. Great, now my parents are going to catch me instead. I piled all my dirty laundry, which was a lot since I was in charge of my own laundry, on top of it and went to sleep. A week later after worrying about it, I figured out how to get it out of the house undetected and into a dumpster. When I pulled it out, it wasn’t working anymore. I swore never to do anything like that again. I am such the rebel without a cause… or backbone for illegal activities.

Overnight hospital stay: Two c-sections and a bout of something in my gut that sent me to the emergency room in pain

Phobias: Besides getting caught for the flashing warning light incident? Isn’t that enough? Okay, since I am a small (5’2”), petite (100 lbs) woman, I don’t like to be in crowded places. I feel that I will be trampled or crushed or just can’t breath. Also, there’s the ocean thing… It’s just so VAST! (Ironically, I have no problems going on a cruise or flying over the ocean. I just don’t want to be shark bait swimming in the ocean.)

Quotes: I love quotes, but mine are mainly from movies. I have too many to name, so I’ll just give you a few.

Princess Bride: “Incontheivable!” “Aaaaaaaaaaas Youuuuuuuuuuuuu Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish” I do not sink that means what you sink that means.”

Always: “Right rudder. Right Rutter.” “He's too beautiful. He's too much twisted steel and sex appeal. I can't be with a guy that looks like I won him in a raffle.”

When Harry Met Sally: “Waiter, there is too much pepper on my paprikash.”

Pride and Prejudice (A & E): “"She is tolerable I suppose, but she's not handsome enough to tempt me". (Said by Lizzy imitating Darcy) “You have no compassion for my poor nerves!” “And yet I am unmoved.” “This is all very vexing!”

While You Were Sleeping: “I don't drink anymore... I don't drink any less, either!” “He was a lot like me, brown hair, flat chest.” “Because it looks like he's *leaning.*” “Oooo These mash potatoes are so creamy.” (Basically the whole dinner scene)

Sense and Sensibility: “I am the soul of discretion.” “Oh… Please don't say anything important 'til I come back.”

Better Off Dead: “I want my two dollars!” “Go zat way, really fast. If zomething gets in your way, turn.”

Napoleon Dynamite: “Gosh!” “Lucky.” “Heck yeah.” “Napoleon, give me some of your tots.”

See, don’t get me started. I can’t stop. I really like Pooh Bear quotes too.

“There’s a rumbly in my tumbly.” And “I am a bear of very little brains and long words bother me.”

Religion: Micah 6:8 “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

And Luke 10:27 “He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

That. That’s what I believe and am striving to do each day.

Siblings: 1 brother, 4 years older than me, who I don’t know very well, who has great taste in people. (Gina was one of my best friends in HS. I so approved of his choice.)

Time I wake up: 5:30 on weekdays; 7 AM (if I’m blessed to make it that long) on weekends. (Usually I wake up early and stare at Mr. Right until he wakes up “on his own” too.

Unusual Talent or skill: I can pick up things with my toes, I can read like lightening, I have an uncanny talent at sticking either foot in my mouth on any ocassion, and I can touch my tongue to my nose. (Do not confuse the first and last talents…)

Vegetable I refuse to eat: Brussels’ sprouts and plain cooked spinach or greens

Worst habit: Just one? Good night nurse – this list could go on longer than the quotes! How about finishing other people’s sentences. I get so busted on that! It’s wrong and rude and high thinking of me to think that I am clairvoyant like God.

X-rays: I never dated a guy named Ray. Sorry.

Yummy stuff I cook: “Not that I’ve thought about it, but my friends have said…” I make the best baked potatoes, the finest black bean dish, the greatest potato salad, a mean lasagna, meatloaf that should have a place in heaven and a pies that kick butt patooty. Of course I made tacos last night and the kids said I was the best cook in the entire world, so it’s all points of view…

Zoo animal I like most: Polar bears… I could watch them for hours. Or until my kids pull me by the hand to “move along.”

I tag Susanne of course (you know the drill), Ken from the voice from the edge of forever and Antique Mommy because she doesn't have enough to do with a toddler and writing the answers for her up and coming MOTW at CHBM. You go AM!

Meme for Addie (3-1=2 to go)

******Before you read, please go to My Quiet Corner and make some noise. Read about the prayer request for momrn2's daughter. This is where we can put our prayers in our mouth and our hands together before the Lord!*****

On May 2nd, Addie tagged me with this meme. I am finally getting it done... Sorry it took so long Addie. Normally I am much more with it! So without further ado, I present The Meme. (Dunh da daaaaaaaaah)

I Am – Woman…
Woe man…
Whoooooooooooooooa man!
She was a thief
You gotta believe
She stole my heart and my cat
.......
Hey, Jane, get me off
This crazy thing...
... called love.
(I always - I repeat, always- think of this bit from So I Married An Axe Murderer, a highly forgettable movie… I only saw it once, but it stuck.)

I Am – a mess, but by the grace of God it's okay. (couldn’t decide, so I repeated it.)

I want – to not want anything not of God.

I wish – I knew how to raise my kids without screwing them up.

I hate – when I am angry with others, but I’m really mad at myself.

I miss – rocking my children and holding them close to me almost every night.

I hear – voices. And they are telling me to go get chocolate ice cream since it is a sunny beautiful day. Since it is such a good idea, I’m going to assume it is the voice of God.

I wonder – what it was like on the ark, what it was like for Jonah, what it would be like to have been Lazarus raised from the dead, and what heaven will be like.

I regret – not knowing the meaning of grace earlier in life.

I hope – I can help my children understand grace and the love of God much earlier than I ever understood it beauty and freedom.

I am not – tall in height, but I am in character.

I dance – like a white churched girl, but I just don’t care.

I sing – songs in response to questions, statements and for no reason at all.

I cry – at baptisms with pure joy, at weddings with memories of my own floating into view, at funerals for my earthly loss, and when others are crying, but not my kids… they are usually crying because of discipline matters, and they just have to get over it.

I am not always – Christ-like. Bummer, especially for anyone who interacts with me.

I make – mean biscuits and gravy, apple or strawberry pie, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, lumpia, potato soup and roulade.

I write – because it helps me to think and Mr. Right really needs me to have another outlet sometimes.

I confuse – my right from my left all the time! (“Wedding ring is on the left hand” often runs through my mind when I need to think of a direction.)

I need – lots of love and attention from Mr. Right. Okay, I’d take it from others too, but only in a non-romantic way.

I should – not should on myself.

I start – my car, the washer, the dishwasher, the bath, the computer, the DVD player, but not the mower because I just can’t get that pull thingy to work for me! Oh darn.

I finish – every book I read, even if it is one that I know I should stop reading because it reeks… I just have to see it through to the end. And some times I am really glad I did because the ending made the book worth while.

Okay, I really liked this one because it dealt with more of the me that makes me me.

So I tag Suzi , Susanne because she doesn't have a blog to share all the good stuff like this - use the comment section if you will, Kate from The Tate School because we've missed her!, Kris from flip flops, Mary from Mary on a Mission, and Diane at Partners in Prayer for our prodigals.

Whew... One down 2 to go... Jeana, yours is next!

Thirteen Things Shalee has to do in order to get caught up after taking a week's vacation...
  1. Do the meme that Addie tagged me to do. (Almost done, Addie!)

  3. Clean said desk to be in office.
  4. Plan 4 different meeting events.
  5. Go grocery shopping.

  7. Do the meme that Jeana tagged me to do. (I'm working on it, Jeana!)

  10. Plan out the kid's summer.
  11. Figure out some romantic getaway for Mr. Right and me.
  12. Eat lots of strawberry pie... because it sounds so good!

Ready or Not, Here I Come

It seems that there have been a few who are wondering why I’m going to California. If you will refer to this post, then you’ll have the low down. If you don’t go look at it, just know that it is a gift from God, one that I’m more than happy to be the recipient!

I am getting SO EXCITED! I’ve talked to the ladies I am going to meet for the first time and we are all like kids waiting for Christmas. Saturday cannot get here soon enough! We already have a wonderful dinner planned for that night, and I’m thrilled to be going to church with one of them on Sunday. I’ve no idea what church she attends, but I have a feeling I will feel comfortable and right at home.

Since these ladies work at my company’s home office, I get to see the real deal and to meet some others with whom I occasionally get to chat. I hear the campus is beautiful, so I see this as a real treat. Plus, I get to watch my friends in action on Monday and maybe learn a few things along the way.

The choir program is on Tuesday. Have I looked at the music? Ummm, yes. Am I prepared for it? Ummm, no. But in my defense, the director sent me about 20 songs. There is no way I could have them memorized or practiced well enough to be completely ready for the three programs. (I only got the last set of songs this morning.) It’s a good thing that I know how to use “watermelon” at appropriate times. (All the singers out there are probably smiling and nodding their heads.) I have faith that God will get me through it, especially as it will all be for His glory! (But I wouldn’t mind the prayers for it anyway…)

Okay, I did a lot of the stuff I had to do for preparing for the trip to Los Angeles. I was able to check off most of the TT to-do list. I’ve packed way too much, of course. I’m one of those “just-in-case” people. Knowing myself as well as I do, I want to have a couple of extra outfits for when I spill my drink on me or when I split a seam. (Think Gibee here.) I’ll go through tonight and wheedle a few things out. But for the most part, I think I’m done. (I didn't do the ziplock deal Shannon. I figured since it was just me, I could get myself dressed in the morning.) Except I forgot the camera… I’ve got to get that in my carry-on bag!

And except for the books… I went to Barnes & Noble with my handy-dandy gift card that I got for being a good assistant and a small list of recommendations from my wonderful blog friends. And they didn’t have one of them! (Sorry Susanne. I told you yesterday I would buy your recs, but it is out of my hands.) That’s what I get for leaving it to the last minute. It’s a good thing I had some books that I’ve been wanting to read. I’ll start with those and find a B&N in that area to peruse. So you still have time for those recommendations…

I think I have found a solution for my “lack of laptop for the express purpose of blogging” dilemma. I’m pretty sure I can get to a computer on Monday, but it’s the other days that make me wonder. But I forgot that I have Audio Blogger set up, so I may be experimenting with it next week. If I can figure it out, I will be calling in my blog comments for you to hear. If not, then it will be a bunch of garbled gobbledy-gook. So if you have any advice on using this program, I’m all ears.

Thank you for all the encouragement and enthusiasm for my trip. I can’t wait to share it with you, too.

Last note: Mr. Right held me last night and told me how much he is going to miss me. Not the dinner-maker, clothes-washer, bathroom-cleaner, caretaker part of me, but the person who is Shalee, who laughs at life and herself, who cries during movies (but not this week!), who kisses the sadness away. I cannot truly express to you how beautiful and loved that made me feel. Then he told me that he was happy that I had this opportunity and to enjoy it, but to remember that people who love her will be waiting for me to come home.

And that is the reason he is Mr. Right to me. As much as I am excited about going, I now cannot wait to come back.

Oh and the 5 lbs in 2 days trick? I took off the guilt of going without the family. It has made a world of difference and has lightened my load. Even if I can’t lose that fiver overnight, I feel great, and that is all that matters.

TT4

Okay, I think that I’ve taken this “being like a child” too far.

Someone said to me this week, “So when do you go to California?” and I said, “At the end of the month.” And she said, “Oh, you this next weekend.”

Wha???!!!

Oh. My. Goodness. Like a child, I just assumed everything would be instantly done.

All the packing, all the washing, all the to-dos checked off the list. I guess I was expecting someone else to do it. Silly me. And I’m the MOM. Sheesh. I forgot that I’m the elected one to do most anything.

But unfortunately, I know for a fact that there is no fairy godmother to take care of these things.

So here is my Thursday Thirteen.

Thirteen things Shalee will fret about until she finally gets off her duff and does them.

  1. Wash clothes to pack.
  2. Pack.
  3. Buy books for the trip.
  4. Look golden brown before going to CA. (They are so going to be able to pick me out as a tourist.)
  5. Pack some more stuff that I forgot to pack the first time through.
  6. Attend to all the details for the kids for the week I am gone.
  7. Get things ready for being gone a week from work.
  8. Pack.
  9. Lose 5 lbs in two days.
  10. Go grocery shopping so that I won’t feel like I’m leaving the family high and dry and hungry.
  11. Cook a couple of meals for Mr. Right to pull out of the freezer. (That’s just to be nice. The man knows how to cook.)
  12. Go through suitcase and take out all the stuff that I don’t need that I put in because I was freaking out about packing.
  13. Resolve myself to the fact that Mr. Right laughed at requested that I not take the laptop because a) we can’t replace it if I lose it, b) it’s the only computer on the net and to take it all week would mean that no one will be able to connect at home and c) how else would he be able to write me love letters to receive if I have the computer.

Okay, he didn’t say that one, but he’d better if I don’t get the computer. I will be on a college campus, so I am bound and determined to find one so that I can blog about the week and keep up with my friends.

But I have a feeling that pictures will wait until I return home.
